Adobe Premiere Pro CC, Sony Vegas Pro and Apple Final Cut Pro X are three good movie maker applications. Whereas Premiere Pro is available for both Windows and Mac OS X platforms, Sony Vegas is only available for Windows, and Final Cut Pro X is only available for Mac OS X.
Adobe Premiere is a highly capable application that features multiple GPU support for renders, Typekit integration, GPU-optimized playback and batch encoding in the background. The application can also work together with other programs by Adobe and grants access to Adobe's Creative Cloud libraries. As of December 2015, Adobe does not sell Premiere separately. As such, users must buy the entire Creative Cloud bundle to access the application.
Featuring a track-based workflow, the Vegas Pro offers advanced video compositing tools, image stabilization, FX masking and GPU acceleration for higher performance. The application supports over 50 multimedia formats, some of which are: MP4, WMV and MOV. As of 2015, Sony offers a discount to users that want to upgrade from a previous version.
Only available for Mac OS X, the Final Cut Pro X features a magnetic timeline that automatically keeps the material in sync, prevents clip collisions and eliminates gaps. The application has direct access to iTunes, iMovie, iPhoto and Aperture. The application can render in the background and use the GPU during the process.
