ZocDoc, Epocrates and MyChart are some good medical applications that run on phones, according to Digital Trends. As of 2015, these mobile apps are available for free on iOS and Android.
ZocDoc lets a user search for nearby doctors or dentists that belong to his insurance company's network and book an appointment. The app provides reviews by other patients for each listed health professional. It reminds the user about upcoming checkups. Its check-in feature lets the user fill out medical forms and other necessary paperwork online before visiting the doctor's office.
Epocrates provides comprehensive information about prescription drugs. It lists each drug with potential side effects, recommended dosage, and possible interactions with other drugs. In addition, the app allows the user to contact the drug manufacturers and providers. It can also help users identify pills.
MyChart keeps a record of the user's test results, medications and other medical information. It coordinates with other apps, such as the Apple Health app, to track fitness data. Like ZocDoc, MyChart lets the user set an appointment, message the clinic and request a refill for an existing prescription. The user must first create an account through his health care provider before he can use MyChart.
