What Is Gmail?

Gmail, an abbreviation for "Google mail," is a free, Web-based email service that is part of Google's larger suite of Web services. Gmail provides its users with 15 gigabytes of free storage, as of 2014.

Gmail is available on multiple platforms, including desktop computers, mobile devices and tablets. Gmail users can customize their mail interface by choosing a theme to apply. Among other features, Gmail provides a money transfer service. It automatically categorizes email for users based on the content of an email message. A user can also organize email by creating tags or folders and sort email messages using those categories.
