Each platform has a different way to gift apps. In iOS, users only need to find the app in the app store, buy it as a gift and enter the recipient's email address. Other platforms, such as Android and Windows, offer gift cards instead of direct app gifting.
To gift an app in iOS, head to the app's page in the Apple App Store, tap the Share icon and tap the Gift icon. The device may ask for Apple ID credentials at this point. In the Send Gift form, specify the recipient's email address, add a message and set a date to send the gift. Proceed to the next page to pay and confirm.
The Google Play Store does not allow you to give Android apps directly as gifts. Instead, it offers gift cards of different denominations through retail partners. Gift card recipients enter their redemption codes on any Android device to earn credits for their Play Store account and buy apps as well as other content. The Amazon Appstore for Android similarly sells gift cards that can be personalized and sent through email or Facebook.
Microsoft also offers gift cards for its platforms. Depending on the type, the gift cards are compatible across multiple Microsoft platforms, such as Xbox, Windows and Windows Phone.
