To fix a scratched compact disc, clean the disc with warm water to remove dust and dirt, use a lint-free cloth to rub the scratches with a toothpaste, rinse the disc with warm water, then let it air dry. When rubbing, apply gentle pressure to avoid scratching the disc further.
- Wash the disc
Wash the disc under running warm water to remove any dust and grit. Gently rub the stubborn dirt with a finger using rubbing alcohol instead of water. Rub from the center of the disc towards the outer edges so you don't scratch the disc further. Shake the disc to remove excess water, and allow it to air dry.
- Apply toothpaste
Dab a bit of toothpaste onto an eyeglass cleaning cloth, and rub the cloth over the scratched disc surface in a redial motion. Work from the center of the disc towards the outer edges until you cover the entire surface, adding the paste to the cloth as needed. Be careful not to apply excessive pressure to avoid gouging the disc.
- Rinse the disc
Rinse the disc with warm water to remove the paste residue, and let it dry. Insert the disc into the player to test it. Repeat the process if scratches remain.
