Some features of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 are an LSI Venus engine II image processor, 6-megapixel capture resolution with MEGA Optical Image Stabilization, 12x optical zoom and a Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens system with 11 elements in eight groups. The Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens system's 12x optical zoom capability is equivalent to a 35 to 430-millimeter lens on a 35-millimeter film camera.
In contrast to a film camera with this zoom capability, the Lumix DMC-FZ7 is small, lightweight and easy to handle. The extended optical zoom feature allows the image to magnify up to 17.5x zoom with minimal deterioration. Panasonic's MEGA optical image stabilizer helps photographs come out clear and sharp, eliminating blurry exposures that result from jittery hands or other factors.
The Lumix DMC-FZ7 includes a 2.5-inch LCD with a power LCD function that increases the display brightness for easier viewing in bright environments. The LCD also features high-angle viewing technology that makes it easier to view the screen from indirect angles. A joystick on the back of the camera allows easy menu navigation, general function assistance and manual focus, exposure, aperture and shutter speed adjustment. The camera also features mega-burst consecutive shooting, allowing up to 14 consecutive shots to be captured at 3 frames per second.
