Some features of Microsoft Office 2010 include real-time collaboration, enhanced security settings and the consistent use of the ribbon interface across all applications. In addition, the productivity suite offers new editing tools and effects for videos and images.
Through its SharePoint 2010 component and Web applications, Microsoft Office 2010 offers co-authoring tools that allow multiple users to edit a document simultaneously. Users have the option to gain exclusive access to documents, view recent changes made by other authors and keep several versions of the same document for recovery purposes. Author settings also provide a protected mode that prevents accidental changes to downloaded documents and a restricted editing mode that specifies which users have collaboration access to certain documents.
Office 2010 improves upon the ribbon interface of Office 2007 and implements it in more applications. The productivity suite allows users to create custom tabs on which to add frequently used tools and buttons. A new view called Backstage replaces the old File menu, and it displays several functions and tools in a more organized and spacious manner.
Several editing tools are available in Office 2010 that help users depend less on third-party software when editing multimedia. For instance, the PowerPoint software allows screen captures and in-video editing. The new background removal tool automatically removes unnecessary details to highlight a specific portion of an image.
