Some features of the Home Again microchip include its proactive network of people who are immediately notified when a pet is lost, maintenance of pet owner contact information, pet emergency hotline access, travel assistance and access to a national pet recovery database. Microchips are radio-frequency identification (RFID) implants that permanently identify a pet and aid in its recovery if lost. HomeAgain provides its services through an annual membership package available to customers who microchip their pets.
HomeAgain offers its members access to Lost Pet Specialists who are on-call 24 hours a day. These specialists are trained counselors who can talk members through the process of finding lost pets. This includes activating the Rapid Lost Pet Alert to shelters, veterinarians and volunteer rescuers within a 25-mile radius of the lost pet's home. The alert includes information, such as the microchip ID and description of the pet. Members can also create a lost pet poster to send with the alert.
HomeAgain sends its members annual renewal notices and reminders to keep their information current in the national pet recovery database. This ensures that the system has the most current information for pets in case they are lost. The company covers flights of up to $500, as of 2015, for transporting pets home if they are found more than 500 miles away. Members also have access to a 24/7 emergency medical hotline for emergencies that occur outside their normal veterinarian's hours.
