Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard features a menu-driven interface, the ability to create a single PDF by combining multiple file formats, and automatic form field recognition for static Adobe PDF forms. Additional features include a PDF search function and file compression adjustment when creating PDFs.
Adobe Acrobat 8 features a number of improvements over its predecessor, Adobe Acrobat 7, such as the ability to manage shared reviews between multiple users, allowing various members of teams to add comments to a shared file simultaneously. Adobe Acrobat 8 is also the first iteration of the program to provide users with metadata removal options. Users with this and later versions of the software can find and remove annotations, attachments, layers, bookmarks, form fields and other metadata from their files.
Other features of Adobe Acrobat 8 include updated redaction tools, such as a deletion tool for sensitive information, text or illustrations. Beginning with this version of the program, users can search specifically for a piece of text to redact using the software's built-in search engine, and view those redactions through the comments panel. Adobe Acrobat 8 also compiles PDF files more efficiently than its predecessor, particularly when creating PDFs from Word, Excel or Powerpoint files.
