As of 2015, some examples of fast desktop processors are the Intel Core i7-5960X (12540), Intel Core i7-4960X (12480) and Intel Core i7-5930K (12440). Fast notebook processors include the Intel Core i7-4870HQ or Intel Core i7-4860HQ (8430), Intel Core i7-4940MX (7170) and Intel Core i7-4930MX (7070).
The Intel Core i7-5960X is one of the fastest desktop processors available. It's Intel's first ever eight-core processor for the general public. One of the features of the processor is Hyper-Threading, which makes for a full 16 threads of processing power. The processor also comes completely unlocked, contains a full 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes and has a huge 20 MB of cache. Further, the i7-5960X has a baseclock of 3GHz and a turbo speed of up to 3.5GHz.
The Intel Core i7-4870HQ is one of Intel's fastest notebook processors. A high-end quad core processor, the i7-4870HQ is based on the Haswell architecture and is manufactured in 22nm. With hyperthreading, the four cores can handle up to eight threads in parallel, meaning better utilization of the CPU. Each core has a base speed of 2.5GHz and the processor also features a fast integrated graphics unit with eDRAM memory. In terms of power consumption, the i7-4870HQ is rated at a TDP of 47 W.
