Many inkjet printers can print polyvinyl chloride (PVC) identification cards, the most common type of ID card, with the addition of an inkjet PVC card tray. Some inkjet printers are sold with trays for printing on CDs and DVDs; these trays can often also be used for printing ID cards.
Other than the inkjet printer tray, no special equipment is needed to print PVC ID cards. Regular inkjet ink works and dries immediately. While any design software can be used to design the ID card, it may be preferable to choose a software that has a template for printing ID cards. Some applications, such as DRPU ID Card Design Software, are specifically intended for designing and printing ID cards.
