As of 2015, you cannot download Microsoft Works 6.0 for free since it is no longer available to the public. Microsoft withdrew the program in 2010. As an alternative, download the Microsoft Word software program for free by visiting the Office website and signing up for the free trial of Office 365.
To get full access to the Word desktop application with a free trial through Office 365, sign in to your Microsoft account or create a new account if you do not have one. Although you do not incur a charge during the free trial, you have to provide payment information to start the trial. Once the free trial ends, you incur an automatic charge for the monthly service. However, you can cancel before the automatic charge occurs without any penalties. Install the Office program after you confirm your payment method.
If you are a student and your university or school has a subscription, use Office 365 Education to access Word for free. You must meet eligibility requirements to use and download the product for free, such as having a school-specific email address and being an active part-time or full-time student. Also, not all schools allow the downloadable version of Word, but you can access the online version.
