You can download backgrounds and screen savers as one package with Windows 8 or later through the Microsoft Themes feature. Access Microsoft Themes by right-clicking the desktop and selecting Personalize. Next, choose Get More Themes Online. Click Download by a theme and then click Open to install it.
Windows themes include a background, a screen saver and a coordinating Windows color. Some themes contain additional customizations, such as Windows sounds. All themes are customizable. For instance, users can choose to keep a theme's background and screen saver while customizing the Windows color. Alternatively, users can create their own themes from scratch by combining their own background images, screen savers and color choices.
Themes often cycle through various backgrounds and screen savers for variety. For instance, the Natural Landscapes 3 theme features 21 images. Others cycle through colors to match the images being used, such as the Beaches Panoramic theme. Users can add this cycling feature to their own customizable themes as well.
The Windows Themes website features Microsoft-published themes and third-party themes alike. The website sorts themes by category, enabling users to search and find themes quickly. Categories include Animals, Art, Games, Movies, Natural Wonders and Holidays & Seasons. Third-party themes have their own theme, From the Community, while themes compatible with Windows 7 are available in their own eponymous category.
