Verizon Wireless customers who want to disable Backup Assistant may do so by selecting the Cancel Subscription option in the Settings or Options menu within the application. However, it may not be possible to cancel or remove Backup Assistant if the app came preloaded on the device.
The procedure for disabling Backup Assistant varies based on the type of device it is installed on. From the main screen on non-touch-screen devices, users need to press the center of the navigation pad to open the Menu screen, and select Media Center. From within either Browse and Download or Apps, users must select Backup Assistant to access the app. Once inside the app, users can press the right soft key to access the options screen, where they can select the Cancel Subscription option to disable the app.
Touch-screen device users need to tap Menu then Media Center to access the Browse and Download or Apps section, where they can open the Backup Assistant app. From within the app, users can tap on Settings to access the Cancel Subscription option.
If none of these procedures successfully disables Backup Assistant, smartphone users with devices running Ice Cream Sandwich or any later version of Android OS, can also try to disable the app from the native Android settings menu. To do so, users can select Backup Assistant in the Apps menu in Settings, then tap the Disable button on the App Info screen.
