  1. Go to the Control Panel

    On computers running on Windows 7 or Windows XP, click on the Start button, and click Control Panel. On computers running Windows 8 or Windows 8.1, point the mouse pointer at the upper-right corner of the screen, and move it down. Select Search from the options that appear, and type "Control Panel" in the search box. When the Control Panel appears, click on it.

  2. Access the list of installed Windows features

    For computers running on Windows XP, select Add or Remove Programs from the list when the Control Panel appears. When the Add or Remove Programs window appears, select Add/Remove Windows Components. For computers running on Windows 7 or any later version of Windows, select the Programs category from Control Panel, and then select Turn Windows Features On or Off.

  3. Turn off Internet Explorer

    For Windows XP, uncheck the box by Internet Explorer's side, click Next, and then click on Finish. For Windows 7 and later, uncheck the box for Internet Explorer, click Yes, and then click on OK. If prompted, restart the computer.
