The application is installed through either the iTunes App Store or the Google Play store on the electronic device, and then selecting the download button for the Charter TV application. Charter currently has two separate TV applications, one for residential Charter customers and the Charter U application for students at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. The Charter U application only works on the Madison campus.

To open the application after downloading, the customer has to sign in to her account. If the user is currently on her Charter Wi-Fi, then she can bypass the log-in page. After logging in, the user must accept the Charter software license agreement, as well as also accept the adult content warning letting the user know that the app contains content not appropriate for all ages, to proceed. After these steps are complete, the application displays the Charter TV home screen. The application is currently available in all states except Colorado, Montana, Utah and Wyoming.
