To remove an icon from the iPhone 5, delete it from the home screen or from the Settings menu. Deleting the icon uninstalls or deletes the application from the device.
To delete an icon from any version of an Apple iPhone, iPad or iPod touch device, press and hold your finger against any icon for two to three seconds until all of the icons start to shake. An X appears in the corner of each icon. Press the X of the icon to delete and a message appears asking for verification of the action. Select Delete and the icon is removed.
Deleting the icon uninstalls the app from the device; however, it remains in the iTunes Applications folder and may re-sync the next time the device is synced. You may choose to delete it there or you can set iTunes syncing options to only sync your selected apps.
If the X doesn't appear, it means the app came pre-installed with the device, and you cannot delete it. To remove the app from the home screen, go to the Settings menu, choose General, then Restrictions and enter your security code. You may then turn off the app you want to remove.
You can also delete apps from the Settings menu of the device. Choose General, then Usage and select Show All Apps. Select the app to delete and press the Delete App option. A message will appear asking you to confirm the deletion.
