The Usage Alerts service is free, and it sends notifications each time the data usage on your account reaches 75, 90 and 100 percent of its monthly allowance. This service also monitors data usage for individual lines and international roaming. To use it, select the Usage Alerts option in the My Verizon section on VerizonWireless.com, add the devices you wish to monitor and select the desired types of alerts to receive. The downside of this service is that it doesn’t report correct data usage via alerts if you’re on a network that uses a static IP address.

The Data Utilization tool uses multiple categories to delineate data usage, including downloads, social media, networking and messaging. To use it, sign in with your My Verizon account on VerizonWireless.com, open the My Usage page in the My Verizon section, navigate to the Data Usage Meter section and click on the View Data Utilization link. To use the Verizon FamilyBase service, click Add Now next to the FamilyBase option, and follow the on-screen instructions to subscribe to the service. Verizon FamilyBase also provides options to control data usage, set limits and block contacts.
