Open File Explorer, select the file or folder to zip, click Share, and then click Zip to create a zip file. This is a common method used for Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1. Files or folders are zipped, or compressed, to save space.
Continue ReadingSwipe in from the right edge of the screen, and click Search. If using a mouse, point the cursor to the upper-right corner of the screen, and then click Search from the drop-down menu.
Type "file explorer" in the search box, and click on Enter. Then, click on File Explorer.
Select the folder you wish to zip. Click Share, and then click Zip. A new compressed folder is created in the same location, with the same name as the original file and a ".zip" extension.
