To create a password reset disk for Windows 7, navigate to the operating system's Control Panel, then click on the User Accounts and Family Safety link. Click on the User Accounts link, and select Create A Password Reset Disk. Password reset disks use a flash drive, floppy disk drive or blank floppy disk instead of a CD, DVD or external hard drive.
After selecting Create a Password Reset Disk, click Next after the Forgotten Password Wizard window appears. In the Password Key drop down box, click on the media drive that you chose to create a Windows 7 password reset disk on, and click Next. While the disk or other media platform is still in the drive, type your current password in the text box and click Next. This prompts Windows 7 to create a password reset disk using your media platform.
After the completion of the process, click Next, and click Finish in the next window that pops up. Remove the floppy disk or disk drive from the computer, and label it before storing it somewhere safe. A password reset disk only needs to be made once. Regardless of the amount of times a password is changed on a Windows 7 system, the disk allows users to create a new password.
