To create a ringtone for a cell phone device, simply download the song of choice to the mobile device and save the song as the ringtone for incoming calls in a ringtone folder. Instructions for saving songs as ringtones may vary by phone. This will cause an entire song to play with this option. The other way to create ringtones for a cell phone device requires software and a bit of editing.
There are several free editing software programs that you can use to create short snippets of songs for ringtone use. You can download Acoustica, Audacity or BitPim for free to a desktop computer and load the song of choice to the software. Edit the song down to 20 to 30 seconds and use the Save As option to save the shortened song as an .mp3 file to a folder on the desktop computer. Connect the mobile device to the desktop computer and load the song to the cell phone or send the song via email or other file sharing program to the device.
Once you have downloaded the song to the mobile device, simply save the song to the ringtone folder and select the new song as the ringtone for the device. Locating the ringtone folder on each mobile device may vary by manufacturer.
