The Nokia Corporation is located in Espoo, Finland. It has operations around the world and employs about 57,000 people.
The Nokia Corporation was founded in 1865 in Tampere in Finland by Fredrik Idestam and Leo Mechelin. It is now based in Espoo in the Uusimaa region of the country.
It is involved in three main business areas:
Nokia networks offers networking infrastructure to corporations and businesses
HERE develops location intelligence as well as location-based services and local commerce solutions
Nokia technologies looks after the intellectual property rights of Nokia, as well as the licensing of its technology. It is involved in the sale of these rights.
At one time, Nokia was one of the largest manufacturers of mobile phones in the world. However, it is not involved in that business any longer. It sold its mobile phone division to Microsoft in 2013, with the deal being completed in 2014. As a result, Nokia is no longer as heavily involved in the manufacturing products for consumers. Instead, it concentrates on larger infrastructure products as well as research and development, and licensing.
Nokia operates in as many as 150 countries around the world offering these services. It has employees in about 120 of those countries.
