How Do You Convert Raw Files to JPEG?

To convert raw image files into JPEG format, use an image viewer utility that supports the raw format, such as IrfanView. With IrfanView, you can convert multiple raw files to the JPEG format by using the batch conversion functionality, or you can open an individual file and save it as a JPEG image.

  1. Download and install IrfanView

Use your Web browser to navigate to the IrfanView website, and select the download option in the navigation menu on the left side of the homepage. Select the desired location from which you wish to download the utility, and click on the Download Now button. Once the setup file has been downloaded, double click it, and follow the installation wizard instructions to complete installation. During the setup process, make sure to associate all image formats with IrfanView by checking the boxes next to them.

  2. Prepare the files for conversion

Start IrfanView, and left-click on File in the upper left corner of the window. From the drop-down menu, select the Batch Conversion/Rename option. Alternatively, press B while the window is active. In the Batch Conversion dialog box, select the raw files to convert, and then left click on the Add button. Left click on the Browse button under the “Output directory for result files” heading, and select the desired destination folder.

  3. Convert the raw files to JPEG

Once the files have been selected, open the drop-down menu under the “Output format:” heading, select the JPG – JPG/JPEG Format option, and left click the ""Start Batch" button in the lower left corner of the dialog box. Before proceeding with the conversion, click on the "Options" button next to output format to modify various parameters that affect the quality of the converted images.
