To connect your Mac to a TV, insert an HDMI adapter into your Mac's Thunderbolt or Mini-Display Port. Insert one side of the HDMI cable into the adapter and the other side into your television's HDMI port. Change the settings of your Mac and television to complete the connection.
- Choose the correct adapter
Purchase either a Mini-Display Port to HDMI adapter or a Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter. If you purchased your Mac before 2011, it does not have a Thunderbolt port. Consult your user manual to verify your computer's video port.
- Insert the HDMI adapter into your computer
Insert the small end of the HDMI adapter into the video port of your Mac. If you have a Mac laptop, locate the port on the left side of the computer.
- Connect the HDMI cable
Insert one end of the HDMI cable into the receiving end of the HDMI adapter. Connect the opposite end into an HDMI port of your television.
- Change the video input on your TV
Using your television remote, change the video input to match the HDMI input to which the Mac is connected. Wait for the Mac to display an extension of the Mac desktop on the television.
- Alter the settings on your Mac if you wish to mirror
If you want to mirror the display from your Mac to the TV, open System Preferences on your Mac. Choose Displays and click the Arrangements option. Check the box labeled Mirror displays.
