Ensure that both the iPad and Apple TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network at the same time. If you experience connectivity issues, the connection may be weak, so try moving the device closer to the Wi-Fi hotspot.
On the iPad, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to bring up the Control Center. On this menu, there should be the option to select AirPlay in the bottom right corner. If the AirPlay icon is not present, then the iOS or Apple TV may need updating.
Once the AirPlay menu is open, select the name of the desired Apple TV, and tap on the Mirroring button to turn on the function. Once this has been enabled, the TV should mimic whatever you see on the iPad's screen.
