Compatibility View was implemented as a button at the left side of the address bar that forced a page to be displayed as it would appear in Internet Explorer 6 and 7. After Compatibility View was released, web developers began to redesign their sites to push content to the edge of the screen. The new designs made the Compatibility View button disappear. In response, Microsoft removed the button in Internet Explorer 11 and moved the compatibility feature into the settings menu.
