Communication hardware is a term that refers to the physical pieces of equipment used to transfer information from one computing device to another. Modems and routers are examples of communication hardware. There are a number of different types of hardware that may be used to transfer data.
A modem converts data from digital to analogue format over a telephone or cable line, while a router ensures that data packages reach the correct destination. Network interface cards (NIC) and Wi-Fi cards are also types of communication hardware. A NIC enables data transfers between computers on a network and a server; a Wi-Fi card allows data transfers on a wireless network.
