The color chart on Ping.com helps to determine the ideal lie angle for a particular golfer, with maroon being an extremely upright club and gold being particularly flat with ten other colors/angles between. This information is used by a Ping fitter to find the customer's ideal club.
Ping's research indicates that a club with the wrong lie angle will adversely affect a golfer's game. A club that is too upright will cause the golfer to draw, hook or pull the ball, while one that is too flat will cause the golfer to fade, slice or push the ball. Lie angle is not the only variable when choosing a golf club, but establishing it early makes it easier for a fitter to determine the ideal club quickly.
