Citrix ICA Client is the name of an early version of the Citrix Receiver software, a tool for connecting to the Citrix Xen platform. With the Citrix Receiver software, users can connect to remote desktops hosted on XenDesktop or apps hosted on XenApp.
The Citrix Xen platform allows users to access corporate IT infrastructure from anywhere and on any device. XenDesktop provides a fully virtualized Windows environment, with the same look and feel as a local session. XenApp hosts virtualized Windows applications in a stand-alone format that can be accessed from remote computers and mobile devices. Both XenDesktop and XenApp run on standard server hardware using Microsoft Hyper-V, VMWare vSphere or Citrix XenServer as the hypervisor platform. All services can be accessed on non-Windows devices, providing cross-platform compatibility.
The Xen platform simplifies IT maintenance by allowing for central management of software resources. Administrators can apply updates or restore backups immediately in one place, regardless of the number of client devices or their location. All sensitive information remains within the data center with fine-grained access controls, reducing the risk of data loss. Applications or desktop environments can be dedicated to a specific user or shared amongst many. Clients can access virtualized resources while offline, and their data and settings automatically synchronize with the server once they reconnect to the network.
