To check for upgrade eligibility on AT&T, either log into an AT&T account online or send the text message *NEW# to *639#. After texting the request, AT&T sends back the upgrade information.
As of July 2015, there are four options for upgrading an AT&T telephone, which include two AT&T Next options, a no-annual-contract option or a two-year commitment. AT&T Next is one option, which allows a user to get a new phone for zero down and then pay for it monthly through an installment plan. After paying for the phone, as long as it is in good condition, there is another option for an AT&T Next upgrade, which allows for a brand new phone.
Another upgrade option for AT&T customers is the no-annual-contract option, or month-to-month option. People eligible for this option are those who have a device already or those who no longer have a contract with AT&T. For individuals who have a two-year contract with AT&T, there is also an upgrade option that allows for a new two-year agreement when the current contract ends. Those with a two-year contract may also choose to upgrade to an AT&T Next plan or an AT&T installment plan in order to upgrade a phone.
