To change the wireless settings on a D-Link router, connect your laptop or desktop to the D-Link router using an Ethernet cable. It is possible to change settings without the cable, but it is safer to use an Ethernet jack. Open your preferred browser on your computer, and type "http://192.168.0.1" or "http://dlinkrouter" (omitting quotes) into the address bar.
After typing in one of the above addresses and pressing Enter, a log in screen appears. Log in to the administrator account using your previously determined user name and password. If this is your first time logging in to your account, there is no password.
After logging in, a D-Link interface appears. Click Setup, click Wireless Settings, and then click Manual Wireless Connection Setup. A variety of options appear for adjusting, including changing the Wireless Network Name or wireless channel options. Click Save Settings before exiting the browser.
It is also possible to set up the D-Link router or make configurations using the Wireless Network Setup Wizard or the Manual Configure. Both options contain a wireless section for adjusting settings, allowing users to enable wireless, schedule times when the wireless is enabled, change the wireless network name and choose a wireless channel. With the wizard and manual configure options, it is also possible to change the D-Link router transmission rate and edit the network's settings, including changing the visibility status, selecting a security mode and using WEP to encrypt data.
