To change a network group name, which is the name associated with computers that are all connected to the same network, simply identify the name of the group by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting Properties from the menu. Then, click the Computer Name tab and Change. Simply enter the new network group name in the next box, which can be any combination of alphanumeric characters.
After changing the network group name, click OK, which will save the changes. Note that a network group name is only for computers that are running Microsoft Windows operating system. Regardless of which version of Windows exists on the computer being used, changing the network group name works exactly the same.
An alternative way to get to the same menu to change the network group name is to navigate to Control Panel, then click System, then Advanced System Settings, then Change Settings. Then click Continue after being prompted to enter the user log-in credentials and navigate to the Computer Name tab, then click Change, which is the same operation that is involved in the steps above. As a secondary note, the name cannot be more than 15 character, nor can it have non-alphanumeric characters.
