A subscriber's preference often determines which provider is best, but Verizon Wireless offers the best coverage in the United States. AT&T has the next-largest coverage area. The companies' services and plan options earn them high rankings.
As of early 2015, Verizon is generally considered the most expensive cell phone provider, and AT&T is often the next most expensive. Sprint and T-Mobile offer plans that cost less per month, so people who live in areas where cheaper providers offer sufficient coverage may prefer to save money. It's also worth looking at relatively small providers, which are often owned by the big four cell phone providers. Metro PCS, for example, is owned by T-Mobile and uses the same network. Alternatively, people willing to pay for the full cost of their phone might consider a prepaid plan provider.
