Many popular movie titles are available on YouTube to stream for a specific cost per movie. For example, as of February 2015, viewers can watch "Dead Poets Society" from its copyright holder, Touchstone Pictures, for a fee of $2.99.
Uploading or watching copyrighted movies on YouTube free of charge is copyright infringement and violates United States copyright laws. However, some movie titles are in what is considered the public domain, and uploading or watching those movies free of charge on YouTube is not unlawful. For example, the copyright on the 1947 thriller "The Red House" was not renewed. A full version of this movie is available on YouTube.
