USB speakers work well with laptop computers to augment the often tinny sound coming from the computers' built-in speakers. Many models of USB speakers are designed specifically for laptops.
USB speakers come in two basic types: those which only supply power to the speakers via the USB connection and USB audio speakers, which supply not only the power but also the audio signal via the USB port. USB audio speakers are typically more expensive. While they are simpler because they only use one plug, they often produce less sound than the first type. USB speakers, which also require a connection through the headphone jack to transmit the audio signal, are less expensive. All come with two separate stereo speakers and have their own volume control.
