To use your computer as an alarm, access the Alarms app, set the alarm time, select the alarm sound and save the settings. This method works for computers that run on Windows 8.1 or newer versions. For older versions of Windows, download and use the Free Alarm Clock software, which provides similar functionality.
In Windows 8.1, press Q and the Windows key at the same time to access the search functionality, type “alarm” in the search field, and select the Alarms app from the list of results. Click on Add, use the dials on the screen to specify the alarm time, select when and how often the alarm should go off, and select the desired alarm sound from the drop-down menu in the Sound section. Click on the floppy disc icon to save the alarm, and make sure it’s enabled by clicking on the bell icon until the message On shows below the icon.
For Windows 7 or older versions, download Free Alarm Clock from FreeAlarmClockSoftware.com, and install it. After starting the program, add an alarm, set the time and frequency, select one of the preset alarm sounds or use your own audio files in MP3 format. The program features an option that lets it wake the computer from Sleep mode, and it automatically raises the volume in case you muted the sound accidentally.
