It is possible to upgrade a system running Windows 7 to Windows 8 if a user has the proper system requirements. As of February, 2015, Windows 8 upgrades cost anywhere from $119 to $199.
Before purchasing an upgrade, a user should head to the Windows Upgrade Assistant. There, users can be sure their systems have the appropriate memory and hard disk space required for an upgrade. The Upgrade Assistant will also allow users to purchase and download the necessary files to upgrade their systems.
Upgrading from Windows XP or Vista requires a DVD and cannot be completed from the Upgrade Assistant.
