Microsoft offers a free trial of its Office 365 software suite, which includes the Excel application, on Office.com. You need a Microsoft account to download the free trial.
In addition to Excel, the free trial for Office 365 includes various other Office software, 1 terabyte of cloud storage on OneDrive, 60 minutes of Skype calls to mobile phones and landlines, and mobile Office applications. You can install the desktop and mobile versions of Office 365 on up to five computers and five mobile devices.
The desktop versions of Office 365 require Windows 7, Mac OS X 10.10 or newer. Although a credit card is required to download the trial, you can cancel your subscription at any time. If not cancelled, Office 365 Home costs $7.99 per month after the trial period. Microsoft promises not to bill the credit card until the end of the trial. To cancel Office 365 subscription at any time, you can visit the My Account page on Office.com to turn off the auto-renew option.
Internet access is required to activate the free trial. Although you cannot use multiple free trials of Office 365 in succession, Microsoft allows users to sign up for a new trial after a year.
