A Windows-based PC that connects to a fax modem can send and receive fax using the Windows Fax and Scan software. To send a fax using Windows Fax and Scan, click Start, select All Programs, and select Windows Fax and Scan to start the program. Once started, click New Fax on the toolbar at the top to configure the software using the Fax Setup wizard. When done, click the Send button to send the fax.
To receive a fax using Windows Fax and Scan manually, start the Windows Fax and Scan program and click Fax at the bottom left of the software. When a fax comes in, click the Receive a Fax Now button on the toolbar to receive it. To set up this software to receive faxes automatically, click Fax at the bottom left of the screen, click Fax Settings in the Tools menu. On the General tab, check the Allow device to receive fax calls option, specify the number of rings to wait before the software answers the call, and click OK.
Alternatively, subscribe to an online fax service, such as RingCentral or MyFax, to send and receive fax by email. RingCentral supports encrypted fax transmission and sends out text message alerts when it receives a fax. MyFax offers users a local or toll-free fax number for sending and receiving a fax. In addition, it lets users send a fax from up to five email addresses.
