Microsoft points cards were available at most major retailers. However, as of June 2015, Microsoft no longer supports Microsoft points, instead carrying out transactions using United States dollars. PayPal and credit cards are also supported for most transactions.
Points already in accounts at the time of the discontinuation were converted into currency that expired on June 5, 2015. While Microsoft points are no longer readily available, the company does continue to honor previously purchased cards by adding currency equal to what the points would have been worth. XBox gift cards continue to be available at most major retailers.
While there are numerous websites that claim to offer free Microsoft points codes, they merely use a random number generator to guess at codes that others have purchased. Cashing in on one of these free codes is the same as stealing the code from whoever purchased it.
