To make CD labels for free, download a CD media label template from Avery.com, open the template using Microsoft Word, modify the placeholder elements, save the file, and print it. Alternatively, download the desired CD label template from within Microsoft Word before creating a new file.
Go to Avery.com, hover over the Templates button, and click on the Downloadable Templates link. Select the Labels option, click on the CD & DVD, Media Labels & Inserts link, and select the Blank or Pre-Designed option. Find a template featuring the Microsoft Word icon, click on the template link, select the option to avoid downloading the Avery Toolbar utility, and click Download Template. Once the download completes, start Microsoft Word, click File, click Open, and then select the downloaded template.
If the program opens the template in Protected View mode, click the Enable Editing button, highlight the placeholder text you want to modify, delete it, and type the desired content in its place. If you don’t want to use CD label templates from other websites, click File, click New, type “cd” in the search field, select one of the templates, and click Download. After creating a CD label, click File, select the Save As option, choose a name for the file, and click Save. To print the label, load the file, select the Print option from the File menu, select your printer, and click the Print button.
