To view live traffic on Google Maps, navigate to Google Maps in a web browser, type in the word "traffic," and press Enter or the search button. To view live traffic in a specific location, type in "traffic" followed by the desired location.
When using Google Maps for viewing live traffic, it is also possible to see traffic along a chosen route. To do this, navigate to Google Maps using a web browser, hover the mouse over the search box, and select Directions. Type the start point in the first text box, or click on a location of the map, and then select a finish point. Once you have selected the route, click on the Show Traffic option located on the directions information card to see live traffic for the selected route.
The live traffic feature on Google Maps is color-coded to detail how fast the traffic is moving. Traffic highlighted in green means there are no delays and the traffic is running smoothly. Traffic highlighted in orange indicates a medium level of traffic with few delays. Traffic highlighted in red indicates delays, with darker red meaning heavier delays. Gray and blue lines on the map aren't associated with traffic and simply indicate the selected route.
