LightScribe users can find free templates at websites such as LightScribeSoftware.org and PretzelLogix.net. Disc labeling software packages such as AudioLabel LightScribe Label Software and Droppix CD Labeler also feature free LightScribe templates. Some versions of the LightScribe software also contain free label templates.
LightScribe is a disc labeling technology developed by Hewlett-Packard that uses the laser in LightScribe enabled optical drives to etch text and graphics onto specially coated discs. The photoelectric coating changes color when exposed to the light from the laser to produce a monochromatic label. In addition to the special hardware and media required, users must also install LightScribe drivers and software along with optional labeling software. Later versions of the LightScribe software included a basic disc labeler with a limited number of free templates. HP discontinued support for this technology in 2013.
