The IRS website contains useful links to more specific tax information. The remainder of the home page also contains various links that users can select to find assistance and answers to common tax questions. The website also allows users to amend their returns, get transcripts of their returns and make payments.
One useful function of the IRS website is the link at the top of the page labeled "Refunds." When selecting this link a page appears that provides the option of tracking a tax refund in progress. The page displays steps to take to check the status of a refund. Under the third step on the page, a link leads to a page where the user can enter information such as Social Security number, filing status and the refund amount expected. After all this information is entered and submitted, the status of a refund is displayed.
Another feature of the IRS website is a link labeled "Forms & Pubs." After selecting this link, a page is displayed that allows access to many different forms used for tax filing purposes. After selecting one of the IRS tax forms from the list, the form in question is displayed on the screen as a readable and printable document that can be saved.
