Apple offers its Find My iPhone service, which allows users to track stolen or lost iPhones via GPS, free of charge. Apple users must sign into Apple's iCloud website to track their lost or stolen devices.
Find My iPhone also tracks lost or stolen Mac computers. Find My iPhone allows for detailed tracking of devices through Apple Maps. Users can display messages on stolen devices remotely and trigger the device to sound an alarm. If the battery of the lost or stolen device is depleted or turned off, Find My iPhone tracks its last known location.
Tile, a bluetooth tracking tag, allows users to track items that the tile is attached to. Tile offers community find, a feature allowing users to mark a lost possession as "lost," allowing for tile users around the community to help located the lost possession. The Tile app, available on Android and iPhone, displays the last known location of a tile allowing the users to see where they left their possession. Tile also sounds an alarm for audio cues when in close proximity to the tag.
Alternatives to Tile include PebbleBee, XY Find-It, Bringrr and SticknNFind. Almost every tracker takes advantage of Bluetooth technology requiring the use of a smart phone.
