The Wi-Fi-only versions of the iPad mini 2 and 3 each weigh 0.75 pounds. The Wi-Fi and cellular versions are slightly heavier, weighing in at 0.79 pounds. Both boast similar features, including their A7 chips and screen resolution. Other improvements made to the iPad mini 2 and 3 include video zoom and the option to take a panoramic photograph. Other than price point, Apple’s comparison chart notes only two differences between the iPad mini 2 and 3. They are the included fingerprint identification sensor and the option for up to 128GB of storage on the iPad mini 3. There is a maximum capacity of 32GB of storage for the iPad mini 2.
In contrast, the original iPad mini is slightly lighter and thinner. The Wi-Fi-only version has a depth of 0.28 inches and weighs 0.68 pounds. With the additional cellular option, it weighs 0.69 pounds. Powered by an A5 chip, the original iPad mini lacks the 64-bit architecture and M7 coprocessor of the iPad mini 2 and 3. It does not include the retina display and also has lower screen resolution.
