Type to Learn 3 engages learners with interactive software that focuses on improving keyboarding speed. The program links language arts and social studies content with typing skills. Development of these skills leads to improved spelling, vocabulary and written composition.
Additional benefits include learning activities differentiated by vocabulary level: beginning, intermediate and advanced. Keyboarding instruction is introduced two keys at a time and features drill and practice and testing to achieve mastery learning. As new letters are introduced, they are integrated with previously learned letters to help students learn in a natural progression. The program introduces phonetic spelling patterns, inflections of adjectives and verbs, appropriate punctuation, frequently misspelled words and synonyms and antonyms.
Students must complete historical or geographical missions for each typing unit. Students learn through incidental learning as they are exposed to various missions in geography and history. Incidental learning occurs as students pursue their main task of typing proficiency.
The computer tracks student data and progress and displays charts in visual form for students, teachers, and parents. The school version of the program includes lesson plans for teachers and the ability to track student data for an entire class. Teachers can set up an unlimited number of student accounts.
