To become a ChaCha guide, you must register through the ChaCha website and pass a compatibility exam geared towards the specific position you are applying for, which is then followed by a mandatory orientation process. Prospective ChaCha guides must also complete a final readiness test before their account is activated.
According to ChaCha's frequently asked questions page, the initial registration process requires all applicants to submit basic personal information and a W-9 Form prior to beginning the compatibility exam. If successful, applicants receive a congratulatory e-mail that contains instructions on how to begin the orientation. The final readiness exam is taken after the orientation and tests the applicant's ability to field customer questions in a real-time environment.
ChaCha requires that all guides be above the age of 18, speak English fluently and have both a mailing address and permission to work in the United States. Additionally, all applicants are asked to have both a high-speed Internet connection and access to either a Windows, Mac OSX or Linux based computer. The company website states that there is no required amount of time a guide must spend working per week, but applicants are advised that they work for ChaCha as independent contractors, rather than as ChaCha employees.
