Automotive Service Excellence tests cannot be taken online. As of 2012, all testing for Automotive Service Excellence takes place in a secure and protected testing center. A listing of local centers is available on ASE.com.
All Automotive Service Excellent tests are computer based and offer immediate test results. Testing is offered throughout the year, and there is a flexible testing schedule available, including nights and weekends.
Those who take the Automotive Service Excellence test are advised to arrive at the testing location early, as testing center personnel may not allow latecomers to take the test. Those taking the test should bring a state-issued identification and registration information. All people taking the test are also given a copy of the test center regulations before the date of the test. Test takers should read and understand this document before the day of the test.
Testing centers utilize metal detectors, so test takers are advised to leave electronic devices and metal objects at home. Most tests offer a one- to two-hour time limit, but recertification tests may only offer a 30- or 45-minute limit. Though breaks are available for those taking the test, test takers cannot leave the testing center or use a cellphone.
