As of 2015, some mobile applications that consumers can use in place of credit cards include Apple Pay and Android Pay. Google Wallet and Samsung Pay are other mobile wallets available.
Consumers using an iPhone can use the Apple Pay mobile app for free to store credit card information and pay for items. This app also has a map finder to show nearby locations that accept Apple Pay. Customers using Apple Pay must have an iPhone 6 or higher or an iPhone 5 or later model paired with the Apple Watch.
Android Pay is available for free for users of Android devices. Android Pay users can use the Tap-To-Pay/NFC feature that uses their fingerprints to pay for items. Google Wallet and Samsung Pay also include Tap-To-Pay with NFC and are accepted at millions of locations.
